Garden City officials investigating suspected arson at motel

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Garden City Fire-Rescue said agencies are investigating a suspected arson after responding to a local motel on Main Street.

“Due to witness statements and multiple points of ignition being identified, the fire is being investigated as a suspected arson,” they wrote.

Units responded to the 100 block of Main Street on Sunday evening and found smoke showing from a single-story motel and declared a working fire.

They wrote crews quickly deployed a handline, made entry, and extinguished the fire, containing the damage to one room. Battalion Chief 201 arrived and assumed command. Engine 202 established a water supply from a nearby hydrant, while Truck 202 conducted ventilation.

Port Wentworth Fire Engine 403 also responded and remained on standby before being released back into service.

“We thank their crew for their response and assistance,” they wrote. “Thanks to the quick response and coordinated efforts of all personnel, the fire was contained to the room of origin and prevented from spreading to the remainder of the motel.”
