Free Statesboro food distributor celebrates 4M meals served with giveaway

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Feed the Boro, a free food distributor in Bulloch County, is celebrating four million meals served with a major food drop later this month.
On Saturday, July 25, Feed the Boro will mark this milestone with a community food distribution beginning at 7 a.m. at Statesboro High School. There, groceries will be given to over 1,000 families.
“This milestone belongs to our entire community,” said Don Poe, chair of Feed the Boro. “Four million meals represent thousands of volunteers, generous sponsors, faithful donors and neighbors coming together to care for one another. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by continuing to serve the families of Bulloch County.”
The event will also feature a patriotic theme to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. Throughout the morning, Food Lion Feeds will surprise attendees by randomly giving away $10 gift cards, with one lucky recipient getting a $250 gift card in honor of America’s birthday.
Since launching its monthly food drops in 2020, Feed the Boro has provided families with enough groceries to prepare two meals a day for a family of four for an entire week. Over the past six years and millions of meals shared, the organization’s mission remained unchanged, according to Feed the Boro’s chair.
“Food insecurity continues to impact families throughout our community,” Poe said. “As long as there’s a need, Feed the Boro will continue showing up month after month to provide hope, support and food for our neighbors.”
