Effingham County sheriff to host Faith & Blue event with Deputy Duck Derby

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (WTOC) - The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office will host its annual Faith & Blue Community Outreach Event this Saturday featuring the return of the Deputy Duck Derby.

Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie invites the community to the free event Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Effingham County Historical Society at 1002 N. Pine St. in Springfield.
The national Faith & Blue initiative brings together law enforcement, first responders, faith-based groups, social service organizations and civic groups to build connections and mutual understanding with residents.
This year’s event will again feature the Deputy Duck Derby in partnership with Mackee’s Funds. Hundreds of rubber ducks will race to raise money for Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes, a residential care program for children who have been abandoned, neglected and abused. Organizers say the derby has raised more than $20,000 for the program in the past three years.
A special guest — Mama Duck, billed as the world’s largest duck — will also return for this year’s event.
Raffles, vendors and food trucks will also be part of the day’s activities. Admission is free and open to the public.
