Early voting underway for Georgia’s 2026 midterm primaries

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Early voting is underway in Georgia’s 2026 midterm primaries, with the governor’s race driving voters to the polls.

Voters in Chatham County cast ballots at various locations Monday, citing reasons including avoiding long lines and the flexibility to vote anywhere in the county ahead of Election Day.

“No hustle, no fuss, no muss,” said Mike Brown, a veteran who voted early with his wife.

Brown was among many Chatham County residents who took advantage of early voting as the 2026 primary gets underway.

“It was so much easier to just run in there and run out,” one voter said.

The Southwest Library on Abercorn Street near the Savannah Mall and the Chatham County Voter Registration Annex on Eisenhower Drive were among the busiest locations Monday.

The Blake couple, who voted at the Eisenhower Drive location, said they have been voting early for years. They said they are anticipating the outcome of the governor’s race and want to make sure their voices are heard as early as possible.

“It’s extremely important for people to vote early because if you don’t vote, you don’t count,” they said. “When you vote early, you don’t have to worry about going to a specific polling place on Election Day. Voting early means you can vote anywhere in Chatham County, but on Election Day, it can get a little too crowded.”

Brown said the process was quick and easy, with little to no wait time.

“Voting early, you kind of get it out of the way, so to speak,” Brown said. “It’s convenient, there was no crowd. I think I was the 29th person to cast a ballot.”

Some locations in Chatham County, including the Islands Library on Johnny Mercer Boulevard, will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for voters unable to vote during the week. Election Day is May 19.
