Dr. Patrick Snowman named to lead Hilton Head VIM clinic

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Volunteers in Medicine Clinic of Hilton Head Island has named Dr. Patrick Snowman its next executive director and chief medical officer.

Snowman will assume the dual leadership role on April 1, 2027. He currently practices emergency medicine at Hilton Head Hospital/Novant and has more than 20 years of medical experience.

In his new position, Snowman will oversee the organization’s operations and clinical services while working with its staff, volunteer medical professionals, board members, donors and community partners.

Snowman, a Hilton Head resident of 22 years, earned his medical degree from MCP-Hahnemann College of Medicine and has long been involved with Volunteers in Medicine.

Dr. Patricia Shapiro will serve as interim executive director and chief medical officer until Snowman assumes the position. Shapiro is a board-certified radiologist who has provided imaging services to VIM patients since 2013. She also helped establish a mammography program for the clinic’s patients.

Current Executive Director Dr. John Newman will leave the organization in mid-September to serve in Japan with the U.S. Navy. According to VIM, Newman will help train surgeons and provide care to military personnel.

Established in 1993, the donor-funded clinic relies on more than 500 volunteers to serve nearly 4,000 medically underserved patients on Hilton Head and Daufuskie islands each year.
