TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - A man is in custody and a woman who previously escaped police custody has now been arrested following a confrontation with a Tybee Island police officer conducting an investigation on Tybrisa Street.

Tybee Island Police said an officer was conducting an investigation on Tybrisa Street on May 25 when a man and woman walked up to the officer and began interfering with the investigation.

After being instructed to leave, police said the man threatened to “take the officer’s badge,” before adding, “I’ll take your gun.” The officer allowed the pair to walk away.

According to police, the couple later returned and the man became confrontational, identifying himself as a “tough gangster motherf——-” while continuing to interfere with the investigation. As the officer attempted to place him under arrest, authorities said he began resisting.

“The officer attempted to tase the man several times with no effect. As he did so, the man’s female companion attempted to step in between the two, forcing the officer to physically push her out of the way,” Tybee Island Police wrote in a press release.

The officer eventually handcuffed the man after a brief struggle. Police said that once he was placed in the back seat of a patrol car, he continued resisting and kicked the officer multiple times.

“Once inside the car, he continued to kick the interior, breaking a piece of trim,” police said.

Woman exposes herself, escapes from hospital

Police said the woman refused to follow instructions and began arguing with a backup officer. During the exchange, authorities said she lifted her shirt and exposed both breasts in public before being placed under arrest.

After being put in a patrol car, police said the woman urinated in the seat and damaged the vehicle. Both suspects were transported to the Tybee Island Police Department for booking.

At the police department, authorities said the woman continued to resist and kicked an officer several times. Both suspects were later taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation. While there, police said the woman escaped through an unsecured door.

The man was taken to the Chatham County Detention Center, where he was booked on charges of public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, possession of marijuana, felony obstruction and interference with government property.

Thursday, June 4, the woman voluntarily surrendered to the Tybee Island Police Department and was transported to the Chatham County Detention Center. She was booked into custody on charges of public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, public indecency, felony obstruction, interference with government property, theft by taking and escape.
