Convicted felon in Savannah arrested for fatal Vidalia shooting

VIDALIA, Ga. (WTOC) - A convicted felon in Savannah has been charged in connection with a fatal Vidalia shooting on July 4 that left a man dead.

The GBI arrested Joel Anton-Jamaal Brown, 25, who was already in custody at the Chatham County Jail on unrelated charges.

That shooting killed 36-year-old Rashad Lamar Lumpkin of Atlanta. At 3:13 a.m., Vidalia Police officers were dispatched to a shots-fired call on East Jenkins St.

When officers arrived, they found Lumpkin in the road with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Brown has been charged with Felony Murder, Malice Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and False Statements and Writings.

Brown was in jail already-- prior to these murder charges-- for false statements and writings, and violating his probation.

He’s a convicted felon and went to prison already for 3 years for racketeering (RICO), gang participation, and theft by receiving stolen property.
