Community meeting scheduled in Jesup to discuss potential data center impacts

JESUP, Ga. (WTOC) - Residents in Wayne County will soon have the chance to hear from scientists and environmental advocates about the potential impacts of a new data center development in Jesup.

A group called Wayne County Neighbors for Responsible Growth is hosting a free, public information session on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026.

The session is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Cracker Williams Recreation Center, located at 245 E. Bay Street in Jesup.

The meeting comes in response to a potential data center development at the Wayne Commerce Park. Organizers say the goal of the meeting is to help residents understand how large-scale data center projects could affect local public health, water resources, energy demands, and the surrounding environment.

The event will feature a presentation and a community Q&A session with representatives from Science for Georgia, the Satilla Riverkeeper, and the Altamaha Riverkeeper.

In addition to the information session, Wayne County Neighbors for Responsible Growth has launched a petition. The group is calling on Jesup City Commissioners to enact a moratorium on current and future large-scale data center projects until independent studies can be completed and regulatory frameworks are put in place.

The information session is free and open to all members of the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and bring questions for the panel of experts.
