Chatham County leaders to be recognized for community service at 17th Annual MLK Drum Major Awards

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - More than 165 community leaders from across Chatham County will be recognized in October for their public service and leadership.

The 17th Annual MLK Drum Major Awards, organized by Feed The Hungry, will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at the Vintage Special Event Center on Industry Drive in Savannah.

According to organizers, the annual ceremony honors individuals whose dedication to service reflects the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This year’s list of distinguished honorees includes several local officials and community figures, such as Savannah Police Chief Lenny Gunther, Chatham County Commissioner Tonya Milton, Chatham County Tax Commissioner Sonya L. Jackson, Alderwoman Bernetta Lanier, and Bishop Willie Ferrell.

“We are proud to celebrate servant leadership and recognize the individuals who continue to make a difference throughout Chatham County,” Feed The Hungry organizers said in a statement. “These awards reflect a powerful legacy of service and the lasting impact of people who remain committed to strengthening our community.”
