SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Chatham County grand jury has indicted a man on one count of Malice Murder for the death of his girlfriend’s son.

Frank Scott, 60, was indicted this week after being charged in the death of Henry Hughes Cawley, the son of Scott’s girlfriend, referenced as Ms. Palmer, back in June.

Frank Scott was indicted for malice murder by a Chatham County grand jury

The incident stemmed from a stabbing on Teresa Drive on June 30.

During a court hearing in August, a detective testified that Ms. Palmer called 911 saying that she and her boyfriend had been attacked, that the attacker was her son, and that everyone was bleeding.

Hughes was 34 years old when he died from his injuries.

The victim in the Teresa Drive case, Henry Hughes Cawley, 34.

Upon arrival, officers found Ms. Palmer and her boyfriend in the rear of the residence. Cawley was found on the floor with severe wounds and a large amount of blood. He died inside the home.

Scott told detectives the incident started with a fight, and that his girlfriend screamed for help after Cawley had been drinking and mistreating the household’s dogs.

He told detectives Cawley had a knife, which he said he saw after Ms. Palmer was freed. Scott said after Cawley let his mom go, Cawley stood there and said, “Come and get me.”

After the incident, Scott took a shower while Cawley was on the living room floor, fatally injured.

A detective testified Scott had no blood on him during an interview that night, but had two small cuts on his index finger and one cut in the middle of his palm, which were the only injuries he sustained from “the fight.”

During the August hearing, Chief Judge Huffman found sufficient probable cause and bound the case to the Chatham County grand jury for consideration of the murder charge in an indictment.

Now that he’s been indicted this is the next step in Superior Court. Next he will have an arraignment, where he will plead guilty or not guilty to the malice murder charge.

The indictment alleges Scott caused the death of Cawley by “stabbing and slashing him with a knife.”

We will let you know when Scott makes his plea before a Superior Court Judge.
