Candlelight vigil honors Georgia domestic violence victims

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Dozens gathered Thursday night at Forsyth Park for a vigil honoring victims of domestic violence. Rows of ribbons planted in front of the bandshell represented the 155 people killed in domestic violence incidents in Georgia last year. Their ages ranged from 3 months to 80-years-old.
Survivors shared their stories during the vigil, and the names of victims were read aloud. Supporters also walked around the park, imagining a world without violence.
“Everybody here tonight coming together for this cause, to remember those that we’ve lost, that help motivate us to make sure that next year we don’t have to have a vigil. I mean, that’s the ultimate goal,” said Lee Robbins, CEO of Safe Shelter.
WTOC’s Dawn Baker served as emcee. Safe Shelter’s benefit fashion show is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Followers of Christ Baptist Church.
