Bulloch County Schools to require clear bags at high school athletic events

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Bulloch County Schools will implement a clear bag requirement at ticketed high school athletic events beginning Oct. 26, 2026.

The policy applies to events held in district high school gymnasiums and stadiums and was developed in coordination with local law enforcement.

New entry requirements

All bags brought into ticketed athletic events must meet the new clear bag requirements and are subject to search upon entry.

Anyone who does not consent to the bag requirements or inspections will be denied entry.

Exceptions

There are exceptions to the clear bag requirement at ticketed athletic events in Bulloch County Schools’ high school gymnasiums and stadiums. Any approved exceptions do not extend to friends or family members accompanying a credentialed individual.

Venue staff will inspect and make exceptions for the following items:

• Bags with medically necessary items including insulin and diabetic supplies, oxygen, prescription medications, or other reasonable medical requirements. The person requiring the supplies must remain with the bag.
• Bags carried by working athletic game officials
• Bags carried by working law enforcement or emergency medical services personnel
• Bags with job-essential equipment carried by working coaches and athletic staff or contracted athletic training staff

Media granted credentials are exempt from the clear bag requirements for any necessary equipment they bring.

Input from administrators

The district’s athletic directors and school administrators provided input on the security upgrades.

School officials said the new procedures, combined with school resource officers and other existing security measures, will benefit student athletes, employees and guests.
