Brian Hussey sworn in as Chatham County District 4 commissioner

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Chatham County has a new District 4 commissioner. Brian Hussey was sworn in Friday morning, filling the seat left open by longtime commissioner Pat Farrell, who stepped down to run for Congress.

Hussey won the May primary with nearly 60 percent of the vote, defeating businessman Joe Welch. He focused on crime, homelessness and stormwater improvements.

Hussey was handed the county budget moments after taking the oath, with commissioners already deep in the budget process ahead of a June deadline.

“I want to look around the room and tell you how humbled I am to have this honor bestowed upon me by the people of District 4,” Hussey said. “And so humbled by the support and the outpouring of support I’ve had throughout this entire campaign. And since my election, it truly is humbling. I promise to serve not just my district, but this county — professionally, with integrity, but mostly with passion.”

His first plans are improving stormwater drainage and infrastructure in the district throughout Savannah’s southside and the islands.
