Boil water advisory issued for Richmond Hill subdivision

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - A boil water advisory was issued Tuesday morning for a Richmond Hill subdivision, according to the City of Richmond Hill.

The Blueberry subdivision is currently under the advisory, including the areas of Oleander Street, Spruce Street, Laurel Street and the Taco Bell on Ford Avenue. The city said the advisory will remain in effect until the City of Richmond Hill has done the appropriate testing to be confident there is no longer a public health concern.

Residents in these areas should boil water for drinking, cooking or preparing food.

A water main repair in the subdivision is causing a loss of pressure which may disrupt residents’ water supply or cause water pressure in parts of the system to drop to very low levels.

The City of Richmond Hill said the advisory is being issued out of an abundance of caution with a potential health hazard due to microbial contamination in the areas without positive pressure.

To properly boil tap water for use, customers should:

• Heat water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the container.
• Continue heating the water for one minute once it begins to boil.
• Remove the water from the heat source and allow to cool before use.

During a boil water advisory, the CDC recommends that boiled tap water or bottled water be used for drinking, brushing teeth, washing food, preparing baby formula, making ice and for pets’ drinking water.

Activities like clothes washing, dish washing and other uses can be done without boiled tap water, according to the city’s statement.

Once the advisory is lifted, residents should flush all faucets for a minimum of two minutes before using the water for drinking or food preparation.
