Beaufort police officer placed on leave following assault and battery arrest

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - A Beaufort police officer was placed on administrative leave after being arrested Tuesday.

Andrew Martin was arrested and charged with assault and battery.

“The Beaufort Police Department takes any alleged violation of law or departmental policy seriously and holds its officers to the highest standards of professional conduct,” the Beaufort Police Department said in a statement. “This incident is being investigated by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and is also being reviewed internally by the Beaufort Police Department in accordance with departmental policy. The officer has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of these processes. As this remains an active matter, no additional information will be released at this time.”
