Beaufort County man charged with attempted murder

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - A Beaufort County man is facing multiple charges after police say he fired shots into a vehicle in Port Royal.

According to arrest records, Deonte Trevon Blake was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center on Thursday. Blake is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, breach of peace aggravated in nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, discharging a firearm within town limits and careless operation of a vehicle.

According to the Port Royal Police Department, officers responded around 10:50 a.m. May 24 to the area of 16th Street and Richmond Avenue after reports of shots fired from a vehicle.

With assistance from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the Beaufort Police Department, officers located the victim and determined the victim’s vehicle had been struck by gunfire from a suspect who was also driving a vehicle. Police said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Investigators canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance footage, including CCTV video from Town of Port Royal cameras, which police said helped identify the suspect vehicle.

Through the investigation, officers identified the suspect as Blake. Police secured arrest warrants for him the same day as the incident, according to authorities.

Blake is now in custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
