Annual ‘Race4Love’ to honor fallen Beaufort County deputies, support domestic violence survivors

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - The 14th annual Race4Love 5K and 3K walk returns to Cat Island later this month, honoring survivors of domestic abuse and remembering two fallen Beaufort County sheriff’s deputies.

The event, organized by Hopeful Horizons in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, was established in memory of Lance Cpl. Dana Tate and Cpl. Dyke “AJ” Coursen. Both deputies were killed in 2002 while responding to a domestic disturbance call in Beaufort County.

Organizers say proceeds from the event benefit Hopeful Horizons, a nonprofit providing free crisis support, emergency shelter, counseling and legal advocacy to victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault across Beaufort, Jasper, Colleton, Allendale and Hampton counties.

“Your participation and support of this event lets victims know they are not alone and helps ensure that our critical, life-saving services remain available,” said Kristin Dubrowski, CEO of Hopeful Horizons.

The race is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, on Cat Island in Beaufort.
