Ahmaud Arbery’s father shares son’s story in new book

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) - Ahmaud Arbery’s father is sharing his son’s story in a new book, along with a message he says the country still needs to hear.
Marcus Arbery Sr. said he named the book Where’s Daddy: The Ahmaud Arbery Story in response to his son’s death.
“When my son first got killed, people got sidetracked. They thought daddy wasn’t there. But daddy was there all the time,” Arbery said.
The book is described as a personal account of loss and love, and what Arbery says he wants other fathers to take from his family’s story.
Arbery said he hopes the book serves as a call to action, urging men to show up, speak up and be present for their children every day.
“I want all men to learn how to be better men with their children. And I want them to learn how to say their children every day, how much they love their children,” Arbery said.
The book also addresses the circumstances surrounding Ahmaud Arbery’s death. Arbery was murdered in February 2020 while jogging in a neighborhood in Glynn County.
“I just want people to know how he died… I want them to see that he died just because he was being a black man,” Marcus Arbery Sr. said.
Arbery said continuing to speak about what happened is part of how he keeps his son’s story alive and pushes for change.
“The most important thing, we really got to just keep these conversations… We got to keep the gas on. We can’t run out of gas,” he said.
The book is available at wheresdaddy.org .
