SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah families will have an opportunity to explore programs designed to help students with autism succeed during an upcoming open house.

Advance Academy at the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism will welcome returning families and the public Thursday, Aug. 6, at its campus at 11500 Middleground Road.

The event will be divided into two sessions:

• Noon to 2 p.m. — Returning Families Session: Current families can reconnect, meet teachers and staff and prepare for the upcoming school year.
• 3 to 5 p.m. — Community Open House: Prospective families, community members and partners can tour the campus and learn about the academy’s programs and services.

“This open house is a chance to reconnect with our returning families and to welcome the community in to see what Advance Academy is all about,” said Shenequa Gresham, president and CEO of the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism.

Gresham said visitors will learn about the academy’s individualized support and its efforts to help every child thrive.

The Royal Tasty Avenue food truck will also be at the campus from noon to 5 p.m., with food available for purchase.

Established in 2000, the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism operates a year-round accredited school for students ages 5 to 21. Its small classrooms incorporate principles of applied behavior analysis.

The nonprofit also provides free advocacy services and training for families, educators and community members.
