Yemassee Police arrest suspect in military mural vandalism

YEMASSEE, S.C. (WTOC) - On Monday, the 19th, damage was reported to the mural located on the old bank building in downtown Yemassee.

The police responded to the scene and discovered that the mural had been vandalized and that trash had also been dumped at the site.

Following an investigation, authorities executed a search warrant that led to the detention of Shemuael Yiseral, 69, of Beaufort County. He was transported to the Beaufort County Detention Center for processing.

During the execution of the search warrant, investigators found overwhelming evidence confirming that Yiseral was responsible for the damage to the mural.

Charges filed to date include:

  • Littering (third degree)
  • Vandalism (pending, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation continues)
