LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - One woman is in critical condition following an accidental shooting at Parker’s in Hinesville, according to the Coastal News Service.

Deputies were dispatched to the Parker’s on McClarys Curve around 8:15 a.m. Friday for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival they discovered a woman wounded from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Joshua Heath, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office detective.

The incident report shows that two contractors working on Fort Stewart’s installation discovered a rifle in the trunk of their vehicle, said Heath.

Due to the installation’s strict policy on firearms that are not registered one of the men called his girlfriend to meet them at the Parker’s to remove the gun and take it home.

As the man was attempting to remove the rife it discharged into the trunk traveling into the vehicle’s cabin hitting the woman in the right side of the head.

The woman was transported to a medical center in Savannah where she is currently in ICU.

Once the scene was cleared an officer was attempting to remove the rifle when it discharged again striking a nearby empty vehicle.

It was later discovered that a cord in the trunk had wrapped around the trigger mechanism causing the weapon to discharge whenever it was picked up.

The man (who owned the gun) was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.
