Woman and firefighter injured in Rincon house fire rescue
RINCON, Ga. (WTOC) -An elderly woman was rescued from a house fire early Sunday morning after becoming trapped inside her bedroom, officials said.
Emergency personnel from the Rincon Fire Department and Rincon Police Department responded to the fire on South Howard Street around 4:00 a.m.
Firefighters entered the home and found the woman trapped inside a bedroom. During the rescue, the fire flashed, hurting a firefighter.
Rincon Police officers assisted by advancing a hose line and suppressing the fire, allowing fire personnel to safely remove the woman from the home.
The woman was transported via Life Star to a burn center for medical treatment.
The injured firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Several Rincon Police officers experienced smoke inhalation during the incident. All affected officers were evaluated by medical personnel and released.
The American Red Cross responded to help those displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
