by Mike Cihla

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - He grew up in Liberty County and is proud be able to give back in his hometown community. This week’s WTOC Top Teacher is Dy’mire Jones from Lewis Frazier Middle School in Hinesville.

“I just love teaching,” said Jones.

Dr. Dy’mire Jones is in his second career as a teacher.

“I actually was a physical therapist for 3 years, until I made that transition during Covid-19, I started looking at different places, I absolutely loved being a physical therapist but this job here, I could never go away from it,” said Jones.

He teaches science class at Lewis Frazier Middle school in Liberty County and likes to get his students involved with hands on activities.

“So whatever they put their minds to hopefully this class helps them get there,” said Jones.

In addition to his role as a teacher, Jones also coaches football and track.

“Just instilling discipline, confidence in a young man, young ladies that I coach, then show them you can take what you are learning in sports and apply that,” said Jones. “Perseverance, confidence, the knowledge you can apply into your daily life and hopefully the future.”

And Jones feels like he is a part of a good team at Lewis Frazier Middle School.

“It starts off with Mrs. Larson our principal,” said Jones. “All the way down the janitorial staff, we all are a team. To my team on 7-1 as well, and how we kind of motivate each other, support each other I also learn a lot as well.”
