WTOC Top Teacher: Amber Tapley
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - She has been teaching for 27 years and feels it is her calling.
Amber Tapley teaches ELA at Southeast Bulloch Middle School.
“It’s very rewarding to be able to teach in Bulloch County especially this small town of Brooklet, which is growing so rapidly,” said Tapely. “It’s just very rewarding to be able to reach out to families that live here. I never worked at school where I have had so much family support, if I need anything I just reach out, text a parent, email a parent then I have a whole group of parents here.”
Her students are reading a middle school classic ‘The Outsiders’
“We like to use books like ‘The Outsiders’ to encourage that love of reading,” said Tapely. “A student can maybe relate to a character in the book, or a situation that happened in the book, so hopefully that will grab that student into reading that book.”
Tapley wants to encourage her students by giving them the support they need.
“I hope that my students know that I care about them beyond what they are learning about,” said Tapely. “I want to know all about them, I care about them, what they are going through that day. I want to support them. I want them to know they can come to me for anything that they need.”
