SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Two long-standing organizations dedicated to serving the homeless community in Savannah will soon become one.

Starting next spring, Union Mission— which has supported Savannah’s homeless for over 85 years — will acquire Emmaus House.

For years, Emmaus House has served the community as an unrestricted soup kitchen.

The goal is to expand access to essential services and improve outcomes for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Union Mission President and CEO Mike Traynor says the acquisition benefits both organizations, and the people they serve.

“Having the acquisition with Emmaus House is really awesome because people can get food, clothing, showers, do laundry, access medical services, workforce development, and a day center. This is really a dream for both organizations to be able to open this facility,” said Traynor.

Next Spring, Emmaus House will relocate from its current location on Abercorn Street to Union Mission’s new Resource Center on Oglethorpe Avenue.
