UPDATE: Statesboro police identify murder suspect, believed to have fled area

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Statesboro Police have identified the suspect in the May 5 murder at a restaurant on South Main Street but are withholding the name at the request of U.S. Marshals.

Detectives believe the suspect has fled the area, according to an update from the Statesboro Police Department.

Warrants have been issued for the suspect’s arrest and given to the U.S. Marshals Service. The suspect’s identity is being withheld to not compromise the search.

The shooting left one man dead, a woman wounded and a third person seriously injured while fleeing the scene.

The victim has been identified as Gregory Johnson, 39, a Statesboro resident with ties to Claxton and Florida. An adult female suffered gunshot wounds, and a pedestrian running from the scene was struck by a vehicle and critically injured.
