UPDATE: Man arrested in connection with fatal Savannah shooting, victim identified
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 9:32 p.m. 11/1/25] The Chatham County Coroner’s Office identified the victim of a fatal shooting on West 34thStreet near Ogeechee Road as 61-year-old Rufus Smalls.
The coroner’s office said Smalls was shot at least one time and was pronounced dead at a local medical center.
The coroner’s office said they are in the early stages of investigation so no further information is available, but say an autopsy will be scheduled.
[UPDATE 11/1/2025] Edward King, 57, was arrested Saturday morning in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Oct. 31 near the intersection of W. 34th Street and Ogeechee Road, according to SPD.
King is charged with murder.

[UPDATE] The Savannah Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting near the intersection of Ogeechee Rd. and W. 34th St. that left one man dead.
Officers say they responded to the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. based on ShotSpotter reports.
Upon arrival officers discovered the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest.
He was given first aid and then taken to Memorial Hospital.
He died as result of his injuries.
No arrests have been made at the time.
The investigation is ongoing.

The Savannah Police Department responded on the scene after a ShotSpotter notification.

Savannah Police have found an adult man shot in the chest.
He has been taken to the hospital with what officials are calling “life-threatening injuries.”

Officials say a suspect is not yet in custody.
