U.S. Coast Guard rescues two people on disabled sailboat near Ossabaw Island
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A U.S. Coast Guard Station Tybee boat crew and a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Savannah helicopter crew worked together Tuesday to rescue two people aboard a disabled 39-foot sailboat near Ossabaw Island.
Once on scene, the helicopter crew lowered AST1 Foss, a Coast Guard rescue swimmer, to assess the situation.
Foss determined that both passengers were injured and needed immediate treatment.
With help from a rescue swimmer, the Station Tybee boat crew brought both passengers aboard and transported them to Kilkenny Marina in Richmond Hill where EMS was waiting.
Coast Guard Southeast District crews says they train year-round to ensure seamless teamwork and to quickly respond (in situations like these) when mariners need it most.
