Two men injured in apparent accidental Long County shooting; One arrested on stolen weapon charge

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Two men arrived at Liberty Regional Medical Center shortly after 5 p.m. with gunshot wounds, according to the Coastal News Service.

Hinesville Chief of Police Tracey Howard said the men were driven to the emergency room by a private vehicle. One man suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, while the other was shot in the leg.

Authorities said the shooting occurred in Long County.

Long County Sheriff Craig Nobles confirmed detectives with the Long County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting.

Nobles said he could not provide the exact location of the incident or say whether investigators are searching for a suspect or person of interest.

Officers with the Hinesville Police Department recovered two handguns from a Cadillac CTS connected to the victims.

Police said one of the firearms had been reported stolen in Long County, while the second weapon did not return any information in the CAD system.

Sheriff Nobles said the shooting appears to have been accidental. One person was arrested on a charge of possession of a stolen weapon.
