Toombs County Sheriff’s Office reissues scam warning after multiple impersonation calls

LYONS, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 3:00 p.m. 12/10/2025] The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to warn locals about scammers posing as government officials.

In a social media post made earlier today, the TCSO says it has continued to receive reports of several phone scams using the sheriff’s office as part of the scam.

Officials say these scammers often mention topics like arrest warrants, subpoenas, jury duty, and taking money over the phone to clear the matter up.

“REMEMBER: law enforcement will never contact you about the topics mentioned above nor ask for payment over the phone,” the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office says.

[ORIGINAL POST, 11/26/2025] The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office is warning locals of a new scam tactic.

In a social media post, the Sheriff’s Office says that scammers are now using Captain Chris Clark’s name in “various types of phone scams.”

If you received a call from Captain Chris Clark, the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office asks for you to please call (912) 526-6778 to verify the validity of the call.
