THUNDERBOLT, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Thunderbolt celebrated the 5th Anniversary of the Blessing of the Fleet Saturday.

This event has quickly grown into a can’t miss celebration for Coastal Georgia.

After being revived in 2022 following nearly three decades, the festival ow draws thousands to the Wilmington River for a full day of community and culture.

The event featured a ceremonial blessing of boats of all kinds, a land parade that kicked off the day, live music and entertainment and plenty of local food, including a traditional Lowcountry boil.

Visitors also checked out local vendors, supported youth entrepreneurs, and enjoyed a family-friendly kids’ zone.

“To respect the water means it is the most fun you will ever have. It is gods biggest natural resource that we get to enjoy every day. It’s bigger than we are and I think we should respect it. And really home in on that. So that’s why that blessing and that extra protection is super important,” said Thunderbolt resident Raegan Highsmith.

Organizers say the celebration is more than just the festivities; it’s a tribute to the areas’ waterfront heritage and community spirit, all as shrimping season kicks off.
