Three hospitalized, with one arriving by Lifestar helicopter, after Hwy 21 crash

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 4:26 p.m.] The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office has provided more details about today’s crash on Highway 21, which is currently under investigation by the ECSO’s Traffic Unit.

The Sheriff’s Office says that one person was airlifted to the hospital following the crash and is listed in critical condition. A second person was taken to the hospital by EMS and is also listed in critical condition.

A third person was also taken to the hospital, and the severity of their injuries is currently not yet clear.

[UPDATE 3:35 p.m.] Highway 21 is back open in both directions after shutting down earlier today due to a crash.

WTOC has reached out to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office for more details and will update this article as information becomes available.

[ORIGINAL STORY] Northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 21, in the area of Dewitt Road in Springfield, are shut down due to a crash, according to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

Lifestar will be landing in the area soon, the ECSO said in a social media post.

Officials ask for people to please use caution if traveling through the area or take an alternate route.
