Threat to Candler County Schools not credible, administration says
METTER, Ga. (WTOC) - The Candler County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Candler County School System earlier this morning to investigate a rumor of a potential threat on campus, officials say.
“This morning, our administration was made aware of a rumor circulating among students and parents regarding a potential threat on campus,” the school system reported in a social media post.
“Working closely with the Candler County Sheriff’s Office, the situation was immediately investigated and it was confirmed that there is no credible threat to our schools.”
“The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority,” the post reads. “While we take every report seriously, unfounded rumors disrupt learning and create unnecessary fear in our community.”
The post also states, “We encourage parents and students to share concerns directly with school administrators or law enforcement so that information can be addressed quickly and accurately.”
WTOC reached out to the Candler County Schools was told a rumor of a possible planned shooting began in an online group chat and then quickly spread.
There was no truth to these rumors and the Candler County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was no credible threat.
