Suspect in custody after high-speed chase in Effingham County, Pooler
EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A suspect is now in custody after a high-speed chase that started in Effingham County and ended in Pooler.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was surveying a home on Highway 17 in Effingham County just before 12:30 p.m. Monday due to a suspect who law enforcement said had been selling illegal guns and gun parts.
ATF agents asked for assistance from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
High-speed chase begins
According to the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect left the home, and deputies attempted a traffic stop on Highway 30. The suspect sped off and a chase began.
Law enforcement said speeds reached over 100 mph as the chase continued into Pooler.
The male suspect got out of the vehicle and started running on foot through backyards in the Highland Avenue/Rivermoor Court area off Benton Boulevard.
Several crashes were reported in Pooler due to the chase, said the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect was taken into custody after K-9 apprehension.
