Step into Wonderland: Downtown Brunswick transforms for art-filled kickoff

by Shakuria Smith

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Wonderland is coming to downtown Brunswick, and the community is invited to follow the trail.

The Brunswick Art Loop will kick off Coastal GA Reads on Thursday, Feb. 5, transforming the downtown area into a celebration inspired by Alice in Wonderland. The free event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

Visitors can explore student-created artwork at the “Through the Looking Glass” exhibit inside the Ritz Theatre while the Brunswick Library hosts crafts, games, tea and cookies in honor of author Lewis Carroll.

Families can also join the White Rabbit Scavenger Hunt by picking up a clue sheet at the Ritz Theatre or library, then visiting participating galleries and shops to search for character-themed playing cards. Those who collect all the stickers can return to the Ritz for a prize.

The evening wraps up with a 7:15 p.m. talk at the Ritz Theatre by retired English professor Dr. Jon Hershey, who will discuss the lasting cultural impact of Alice in Wonderland.

Several local businesses and galleries will host special events, including live music, art showcases, open mic performances and themed drinks.

Organizers encourage residents to bring the whole family and experience the art, shops and creativity that make historic downtown Brunswick unique.
