Statesboro mayor delivers State of the City address

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Statesboro city leaders are sharing their major city accomplishments from the past year and setting priorities for the future.

Tuesday, people gathered at the Emma Kelly Theatre for Mayor Jonathan McCollar’s annual State of the City address.

During the event WTOC’s Dawn Baker hosted a conversation with the mayor.

For 2026 city officials say they want to continue improving infrastructure increase child literacy and supporting fire and police to improve public safety.

“And the one thing we try to do especially in out community is let folks understand that Statesboro comes first,” said McCollar. “What we do as a city and as a staff, we stay disciplined. And at the end of the day, our goal, is to make sure that the people who call this place home, get the things they need, and that they have a high quality of life.”

Other notable topics included more affordable housing, improvements to roads and drainage and expanding the local foodbank.
