Statesboro Fire Department responds to apartment home fire on Gentilly Drive
STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Firefighters with the Statesboro Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire late Thursday morning.
At 11:28 a.m., dispatchers sent crews to the 100 block of Gentilly Drive after receiving reports of a fire inside an occupied, two-story, multi-family residence. Battalion 1 and Truck 1 arrived within three minutes and observed heavy smoke billowing from second-floor windows and the roof area.
Firefighters immediately launched an aggressive interior attack, entering the building to locate and extinguish the flames. Crews successfully confined the fire to the room where it originated, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the structure.
“The quick arrival of our crews and coordinated interior operations allowed us to locate the seat of the fire and prevent further extension,” Deputy Chief Bobby Duggar said.
The apartment sustained moderate fire damage in the room of origin and smoke damage throughout the second floor.
Investigators with the Statesboro Fire Department are working to determine the cause of the fire.
Officials reported no injuries.
The CAFÉ unit and the American Red Cross responded to assist residents displaced by the incident.
