Star-studded week in the Hostess City, A-list celebs visit local businesses
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - It’s a busy and star-studded week in the Hostess City, with SCAD’s annual film festival underway.
Already, we’ve heard from big stars like "Wicked" Director Jon M. Chu and "Top Gun" star Miles Teller.
When the phone rang at The Savannah Taphouse on Broughton Street, the caller claimed to be Teller asking about coming the next day to watch the Eagles game. Server Cassidy Munda thought someone was playing a prank.
“We really didn’t know if it was going to happen or not,” Munda said.
It wasn’t until Sunday when he actually showed up that she knew it was real.
“I saw him standing at the doorway and I immediately was just like, oh my God, it’s happening,” Munda said.
Teller and other stars are in town this week for the annual SCAD Film Festival, which is happening just down the street from the Savannah Tap House. When they aren’t hitting the red carpet or attending the film festival, some are spending time in local businesses.
Owner Jay Trikha said he was excited about the visit. He said the SCAD Film Festival brings a huge business boost, and celebrity visits like what happened on Sunday keep that momentum going even after the film festival ends.
“The post we did yesterday with Miles Teller, has, like, 200,000 views. So it obviously definitely pushes your restaurant in front of other businesses, in front of people’s eyes,” Trikha said.
While it’s great for business, fans of Teller like Munda said the experience is something she’ll remember for the rest of her life.
“I actually...did keep his bar glass because I wanted to have that memory forever. So I will definitely remember this,” Munda said.
With the SCAD Film Festival continuing through November first, staff at the Savannah Taphouse said they’re excited for any other possible star-studded visits.
“We’ve already messaged Sydney Sweeney and asked her that Miles got wings. Where were you? So, we’ll see if she responds,” Trikha said.
