Savannah to observe Holocaust Remembrance Day with community events
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah will observe Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Yom HaShoah, with a series of events honoring victims, survivors, and those impacted.
The main ceremony is set for Sunday, April 12 at 3 p.m. at the Jewish Educational Alliance. It will include remarks from local rabbis, memorial candle lighting, and a keynote address from Holocaust educator Dr. Jerzy Wójcik.
Student entries from the Sherry Dolgoff Holocaust Art and Writing Contest will also be recognized and displayed throughout April.
Additional events include a “Reading of the Names” on Tuesday, April 14 at 8 a.m., and a ticketed virtual Auschwitz tour and discussion on Wednesday, April 15 at the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center.
Organizers say the events aim to preserve history and educate future generations.
The main ceremony is free and open to the public.
