Savannah’s 202nd St. Patrick’s Day Parade brings big crowds, historic debut and booming business

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - As communities around the world marked St. Patrick’s Day, one of the largest parades honoring the holiday took over Savannah, drawing thousands of people downtown for the city’s 202nd annual celebration.

Organizers reported more than 300 entries in this year’s parade, and the atmosphere along the route matched Savannah’s reputation — high energy, packed crowds, and plenty of green.

Attendees said the event lived up to the hype.

“We love it. Don’t tell New York, but I’d rather be here than the New York City parade any time.”

One of the key moments of the day was the debut of Latrell Reed, the 2026 Miss St. Patrick’s Day. The Savannah native made history as the first African American woman to win the title.

The celebration also included members of the military community who took time to enjoy the day, even as conflict continues overseas.

Among the crowd were two visitors from Ireland who said it took more than 24 hours of travel to reach Savannah and the experience was worth it.

“It’s ten times better than St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland… it’s so extra. The people, the celebrations — it couldn’t be better.”

Restaurants and bars reported a strong day for sales, with many offering green-themed food and drinks.

“Everybody’s just having a great time. St. Patrick’s Day is a huge event for everybody, and we really look forward to it here in Savannah.”

For some families, St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah is about keeping long-running traditions alive.

“My great-grandfather was a Grand Marshal.”

And for those who have never attended, parade-goers had a simple message:

“Come to Savannah. I love St. Patrick’s Day. Do you think Savannah has the best St. Patrick’s Day? Yes, I definitely think Savannah does.”
