SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah Municipal Archives Department is inviting residents to share personal memories and stories as part of its ongoing Savannah Community Memory Project.

The first Memory Collection Drop-In Day of 2026 is scheduled for Friday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Archives & History Room at City Hall.

Residents are encouraged to bring community memory keepsakes, including photographs, postcards, building plans, scrapbooks and newsletters, to be scanned for the project. Participants can also share memories on camera or take part in a traditional oral history interview.

According to the city, items and stories tied to community events, local leaders, landmarks, neighborhoods and Savannah food traditions are especially welcome.

People who cannot attend in person can still participate through the Share Your Story portal here.

Additional Memory Collection Drop-In Days are scheduled for:

  • July 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • October 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • December 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All events will be held in the Archives & History Room at City Hall unless otherwise noted by the city.

For questions or to reserve a time slot, residents can email Archives@Savannahga.gov or call 912-651-4212.
