Savannah police headquarters reopens downtown after $13.5M renovation
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah is set to celebrate the completion of renovations to the Savannah Police Department headquarters.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m., marking the department’s return to its historic downtown location.
City leaders say the $13.5 million, multi-phase project modernizes the facility while preserving its historic character. Upgrades include improvements to infrastructure, accessibility, and overall functionality to better support public safety operations.
Following the ceremony, the department will also hold a room dedication honoring the “Original Nine,” the first group of Black police officers who integrated the department in 1947.
The largest conference room inside the headquarters will be renamed in their honor.
City officials say the project reflects a continued investment in public safety while recognizing Savannah’s history and preparing for future needs.
