Savannah homeowners may qualify for up to $2,000 in home repair grants
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Homeowners in the city of Savannah may be eligible for financial help to make needed repairs to their homes.
The City of Savannah Housing Services Department is offering qualified homeowners up to $2,000 in grant funding for minor repairs, including roofing, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, painting and flooring. Funding is limited and based on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If repair costs exceed the grant, homeowners may qualify for a home improvement loan of up to $15,000 with a 20-year term at 2% interest, no monthly payments while the home remains owner-occupied, and repayment due upon sale or transfer of the property, with a lien placed on the home until paid.
Some homeowners may be matched with volunteer repair groups for select projects. Applications are reviewed by a loan officer and assistance depends on available funding.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Own and live in the home
- Provide income verification for household members age 18 and older
- Provide documentation of a current mortgage, clear title and up-to-date property taxes
There is no age requirement to apply.
