SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Monday, Garden City PD stopped a stolen U-Haul truck in Garden City, after confirming it had been reported stolen out of La Grange, GA.

The driver was identified as 26-year-old Damos Jackson.

Inside the truck, officers found 4 very young children in unsafe and neglected conditions:

* Three children were standing unsecured in the front seat without seatbelts or car seats.

* An infant was lying unsecured on the passenger-side floorboard.

* All four children appeared neglected, were still in diapers, and had soiled themselves. The report said they had all not been changed in hours or days.

EMS evaluated the children at the scene. Jackson stated the truck had been rented by his father and claimed he did not know it was overdue. Investigators later confirmed the U-Haul had been rented in February 2026 and never returned.

The children’s mother was located and questioned.

She stated she had recently picked up the children and had been running errands related to a FedEx job application. She also disclosed there was an active DFCS case involving the family.

DFCS later determined the children would be placed with their maternal grandmother who took custody at the scene.

The stolen U-Haul was towed. Although the vehicle was confirmed stolen, Damos Jackson was not charged with theft due to insufficient probable cause regarding ‘intent’.

He instead was cited for driving with a suspended license and four child restraint violations.

Jackson was released and instructed to report to the police department the next morning but failed to appear. Requests have been made to Garden City Police Department to confirm whether a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Last Summer in July, he was arrested on similar charges.
