Savannah church to host United Way reading program volunteer training
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - United Way of the Coastal Empire will host a training Tuesday for individuals interested in volunteering with the Read United program.
The Read United Buddies Backup Training starts at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, at Asbury Memorial Church at 1008 E Henry St.
The training equips backup volunteers to support early literacy in the community. The program helps ensure every child has a caring adult cheering them on as they learn to read.
No previous experience is required.
Cheri Dean, United Way of the Coastal Empire Vice President of Direct Services and Impact, will offer the training. Helen Downing, an Asbury Memorial Church member and volunteer, will speak, and light refreshments will be available.
