Savannah Tech names veteran officer as new police chief
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah Technical College is set to officially welcome its new Chief of Police, Keith Dennis, during a swearing-in ceremony Tuesday morning.
Dennis, a retired law enforcement leader with nearly 30 years of experience in Chatham County, began his role on May 1.
The ceremony will take place May 5 at 10 a.m. on Savannah Tech’s Savannah campus and will be officiated by Bill Hitchens. Regional law enforcement leaders and college officials are also expected to attend.
Dennis brings decades of experience, including more than 20 years as a detective supervisor handling complex cases and 15 years serving on the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department SWAT team.
College leaders say his approach will focus on building strong community partnerships while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for students.
Following the ceremony, Dennis plans to conduct listening tours across Savannah Tech’s Liberty, Effingham, and Crossroads campuses in the coming weeks.
