Savannah Tech Police Cadet, employed by Statesboro PD, arrested for stalking ex-boyfriend
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah Tech Academy Police Cadet working at the Statesboro Police Department was arrested last month for allegedly stalking her ex-boyfriend, lying in wait for hours, and trespassing at his home.
Rebecca Sheffield, 30, was arrested in April and charged with stalking, family violence, criminal trespassing, and disorderly conduct.
Sheffield resigned from the Statesboro Police Department while under investigation. She did not complete the Savannah Tech College Police Academy, and her post file reflects that she resigned while under investigation.

Allegations detailed in report
The investigation followed allegations that Sheffield stalked and harassed her ex-boyfriend at his home in April.
According to a 911 call, Sheffield’s ex-boyfriend told dispatchers his ex was trespassing at his home on Lilly Street in Statesboro.

“I have an ex here, she’s trespassed,” he said in the call. “She has no belongings here. She has put her hands on me. I have several witnesses.”
The 20-page investigative report details that Sheffield asked her ex-boyfriend’s neighbor if she could park her car in the neighbor’s shed with the door shut.

The neighbor said Sheffield waited there from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. that night when the confrontation happened.
As her ex-boyfriend came home from a date with another woman, Sheffield approached, pushed him, threw her phone and tried to go through his front door, according to the report. His father called 911 from there.
Sheffield was arrested after her ex and his father repeatedly asked her to leave their property.
Weapons in vehicle
After Sheffield bonded out of jail, she was placed on administrative leave by Statesboro PD. A formal internal affairs investigation started, but she resigned while under investigation.

The internal affairs report reveals that Sheffield allegedly waited for nearly eight hours with her police weapons in the car. None of the weapons were used in the confrontation.
Statesboro’s Police Chief passed along contact information to Sheffield. Attempts to reach her directly have not been returned.
