Savannah State leader discusses student resources and expansion
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - While students are moving in at Savannah State University, WTOC is welcoming Dr. Terrence Dixon, the Vice President for Enrollment Management , Student Affairs and Marketing Services, to Welcome to our Community. Dr. Dixon says the team has many exciting things in store for new and returning students. He says this year’s freshman class is filled with a wonderful array of students who come from very diverse backgrounds and places.
To help increase enrollment, SSU is reaching to school systems around the region.
The incoming class is made up of more than 700 freshmen coming from as far as California to as close as Savannah. Dixon’s team has been meeting with them through virtual classes and working to get returning students prepared for the new class.
WTOC asked Dr. Dixon if he’s seeing any trends when it comes to students’ interests. He says many are interested in STEM careers and acting.
The vision for the next 5 years:
- a larger student body on campus and virtually
- SSU will be an institution of choice if you’re looking for an HBCU in GA
Dr. Dixon says he also envisions that SSU will become a great place for students who are looking for a place that cares about whether they understand and their progress.
