Savannah State University Launches ‘MySSU’ mobile app

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) -Savannah State students, alumni, and community members now have a new way to stay connected with the university through the “MySSU” app. The app is designed to provide students and the local community with easy access to campus resources, events, and important updates.

The app officially launched Monday and is now available for download on both Apple and Android devices.

Graduate student Sunzahra Banks said the goal is to help students stay connected while keeping the community informed about campus activities and resources.

“It’s pretty much limitless—the things you can do on the app versus going on multiple different platforms,” Banks said.

After downloading the app, users can access financial resources, track academic progress, check grades, add or drop classes, and stay up to date with campus events. The app also includes a feature to contact campus security or police directly if assistance is needed.

Even those who don’t attend Savannah State can use the app to follow Tiger Athletics, see who the Tigers are playing, and check game times.

Zaylen Gates, student government association president, helped develop the app over the past year alongside other students and university officials, including President Dr. Jermain Whirl. He said the team incorporated feedback from students and staff to improve campus communication and accessibility.

“There’s always room for improvement, so we wanted to create something—and the app was a great solution for that,” Gates said.

Students across campus are already downloading the app, Gates added, with excitement growing as word spreads.

“They were putting it in group chats, telling their friends. My administration, we were going up to students saying, ‘Hey, you got the app?’ So the buzz is growing, it’s getting loud, and more students are getting connected to it,” he said.
