Savannah Police now clearing the scene at Largo Villas, no suspect in custody
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - [UPDATE 4:50 p.m. 12/12/25] The Savannah Police Department is now clearing the scene at Largo Villas after searching for a potentially armed, possibly barricaded suspect earlier this afternoon.
The Police Department tells us that SPD received information that a suspect ran inside an apartment in the complex with a weapon. Officials say this information turned out to be false.
The suspect officers were searching for is tied to an aggravated assault that took place on Abercorn St. and Stephenson Ave. around 11:10 a.m. earlier today. Officials say the suspect fired on a vehicle with occupants inside.
There was damage to the vehicle, but none of the people inside were hurt.
[UPDATE 2:35 p.m. 12/12/25] Police officers are on scene responding to a possibly barricaded suspect in a Savannah apartment complex.
Police believe the suspect may be armed.
SPD officials told WTOC they notified local school leaders, who put a nearby school on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
The suspect is tied to an aggravated assault that took place on Abercorn St. and Stephenson Ave. around 11:10 a.m. Friday. Police said nobody has been injured, but there was ballistic damage to a vehicle.
[ORIGINAL STORY] WTOC is on the scene right in front of Largo Villas, where multiple law enforcement officers have gathered.
Officials tell us that they are investigating an aggravated assault. A person has allegedly shot at an occupied car and officers are looking for the suspect in this area.
WTOC spoke with the Savannah Police Department, who said “At roughly Stephenson and Abercorn, there was an incident where a person jumped out of their vehicle and fired into an occupied vehicle. Nobody was hit, but there was damage to the vehicle.”
The SPD spokesperson says the two people knew each other, and the suspect got back in his car and left the scene.
“We have reports that suspect went back to his apartment in that apartment complex,” SPD says. “The school in the area has been notified.”
WTOC has also received reports that school is currently in lockdown.

WTOC is actively working to learn more about the current situation. Crews on the scene have observed police officers both in front of and behind the apartment complex.
Residents should stay indoors, and locals and travelers should avoid the area at this time.
